novel story - The benefits of reading 1

Did you know that reading can keep your mind active and engaged well into old age?
A few years ago when I worked as a journalist, I interviewed a woman who was a stay in a nursing home. She was 100 years old. And she read at least one book per week. In particular novels. She was brilliant, intelligent and fun to talk with.
"I like to read. It helps me with what's happening in the world to cope," she said. "A friend gave me me a new book every week. I look forward to their visits, and I look forward to the books. We talk about the books we read."
Reading has other benefits.
On the one hand, reading a good story, you can forget some of the problems in your own life.
"I can not move much," said the woman who lived 100 years in the nursing home. will "If I go somewhere, I must go now in a wheelchair. But when I read, I can not go" anywhere, anytime I. And no one to help me! "
Reading a good example for the younger generations.
From my own experience as an English teacher and a substitute teacher in many elementary classrooms, I noticed that the best students readers who read their parents to see. And I do not just read novels or Nonfiction Books. Newspapers and magazines are also important. This is the opposite of the saying "Do as I say, not as I do." You can about the benefits of reading, until you are speaking hoarsely, if you do not speak a word, but if read not to himself, the better your actions, to communicate your children and grandchildren, as you enjoy reading all that what ever you say.
But why reading is so important? At that time, give us television and films and videos to entertain us, which must be read?
The answer to this question is - everyone.
Developing good reading skills means not only that you read a novel or a fiction book or a magazine or newspaper, it means to read into the situation - and understand - to complete a credit card contract or an insurance company. Or the directions for putting together this new shelf, you just bought. Or instructions on how to use a new printer to your computer. Or the skills you need to apply for a job or take out a loan to buy a house. Or that the item you found on the Internet information for consumers on the best to buy the most fuel efficient car.
of good reading skills, you can read and understand the product label. Or instructions for taking medication. Or the warnings printed on a bottle of household cleaner.
It also means the development of good reading skills, the need to think for themselves. Whether you can read about the pros and cons of breastfeeding Homeschooling something taking place at a holiday in Ireland. And then make your own opinion about what is best for you and your family.
If the opportunity arises, I invite the time to read a child. Or take the time to leave a child as you read. All will benefit from it. Child. You. Our society. The world as a whole.
