Each year in November, over 100,000 brave souls take on National Novel Writing Month. The goal is simple: to write a complete novel in one month, starting first November and ends on or before 30 November. The only requirement is that your novel is a minimum of 50,000 words.
It is a noble thing that people think of just dreaming or writing a novel (what most of us could ever do to be prevented), and go instead, and actually writes. This can be a good thing. It was only during one month, it will not disrupt your life too long. And in November, when not much is happening anyway.
So it is really possible to write a novel in 30 days? " Do not most novels of at least a year to write? Now, 50,000 words in 30 days was up to 1667 words per day - the same length as a short story or a lengthy article. Journalists should have no difficulty to recognize that - it's the kind of thing they churn out each day's.
And in fact some very famous authors have written novels are much longer in a fraction of that time. Take the example of Ray Bradbury, who "wrote Fahrenheit 451" in just over nine days. Well, it's not a particularly long novel of 192 pages - but nine days is still very impressive.
But nine days is far from a record. Bradbury was easily beaten by Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman), who wrote one of his novels in just seven days. Interestingly, the king began his pseudonym Bachman, because he wrote novels faster than his publisher willing to release was. A novel by Stephen King a year had more than enough, they said. The public will not accept more than. Then came Mr. Bachman and the productivity of King (and the wealth) has doubled. For the price of one book every seven days, the king would need another alias of his publishing house to keep 50 happy. As far as I know he only has one, he must decided to take things easy after I have it!
But only seven days a record is not. One of the most prolific writers of the world was a Belgian writer Georges Simenon, creator of the judicial police "Maigret". Simenon regularly produces up to 80 pages per day and could write a novel in only six days. And yes, also a pseudonym, had allowed him to publish more books. But for him, a pseudonym was not easy enough, he had more than two dozen of them! During his life, Simenon wrote hundreds of novels and short stories, articles and autobiographical works. His famous detective Maigret "appears in 75 of his novels, and other in 28 short stories.
Even more surprising - but not if you know the secret - the story of the writer Alexandre Dumas is French. Besides being a prolific writer whose work "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "The Three Musketeers, Dumas was also a successful playwright. He has a bet with a friend, he placed was a whole room to write - one of the" Boulevard Comedy "- in just three days. His friend accepted the challenge, confident that Dumas has attempted the impossible and lose the bet. He was wrong. Dumas left his office less than 72 hours later took the script ended.
Not to exceed, the American writer Jack Kerouac is said "to The Subterraneans" - another relatively short novel of 192 pages - in just three days. Now it is true Kerouac was a little eccentric, and he probably slept all day and all night during those three days. But when the muse strikes, it is always a good idea to stay with her if you can - even if it means, without food and sleep (but do not use alcohol - in his case at least). Kerouac worked as a sports journalist, who is undoubtedly an excellent education for those who want to break records to write a novel.
Talking of records, we shall consider the holder of Guinness World Record for the event: Dame Barbara Cartland. Dame Barbara was a prolific writer in his long career, publishing 723 novels in his lifetime and over a hundred others posthumously. His most productive year was 1983, when her 26 novels - conceived, written and edited, published at a rate of one every 14 days. This record should not be interrupted for long periods. Cartland was also mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as the best-selling author in the world, sold over a billion pounds.
With all this in mind, back in the National Novel Writing Month. Yes, a whole month! It does not seem so difficult now, is not it? All it takes is an excellent idea, and most of us have at least one novel that clutter our minds is dying out. I know, I know. This may be the year that ultimately sell to be written.
If you are the 100,000 people who enter the National Novel Writing Month this year - NaNoWriMo join reorganization plan as a lover of love - here are some tips from a published writer:
* Try to make your novel more than 50,000 words. Most commercial novels are at least 80,000 words, it is as if you hope to publish your book.
* NaNoWriMo is only on the process of writing. It is not for you, from planning and writing your novel to avoid a detailed plan before the event. And so the publication of your novel and make it into something publishable, that can be done after the 30 days elapsed. In fact, there is another event called National Novel months edition (NaNoEdMo) is satisfied that this process takes place each March.
My typing speed is not very fast - say 50 words per minute. If I force this year in NaNoWriMo, I my goal to 80,000 words or 2667 words per day. I already have the design, and I'd leave the editing for later. For example, typing 50 words per minute, it must me at least 55 minutes to reach my daily goal. Even the busiest person should be able to manage that - after all it only for a month, and you have a novel by the end it finished!
